Treble in Paradise Concerts presents A FIDDLE EXTRAVAGANZA with MAIRI RANKIN, TRENT FREEMAN & ERIC WRIGHT on Wednesday November 23, at the Tipper Review Room, 2066 Kingsway (at Victoria Drive)

From the legendary Rankin Family of Mabou NS, Mairi  fiddles, sings and step-dances up a storm. She  tours and records with the Cape Breton super group Beolach and with the internationally acclaimed folk group The Outside Track, and often works as a sideman with other artists.

Trent Freeman is an innovative musician with a unique sense of groove, harmony, and composition. He has won awards as a music video producer, with his groups The Fretless and Speaker Face, and with his solo record Rock Paper Scissors. Trent also plays with John Reischman's The Pine Siskins and always has a new project on the go.  Come out and see what he's up to with this project..

Eric Wright chose to cross boundaries usually faced by cellists.  He found a unique way to fit into Irish and American Old Time music  by  taking “the chop”, an innovative rhythmic technique, to new levels.  In so doing Eric has become a highly sought-after accompanist for all types of folk styles. His recording sessions have included work with Ruth Moody, Pear, Red Moon Road, Cassie & Maggie MacDonald, Trey Anastasio, and many others.  And of course, he is a critical part of the award winning, and world touring, The Fretless Admission $20.  Doors open at 7:15.  Concert starts at 8:00.  Seating is limited– reservations available at trebleinparadise@shaw.ca   Copyright © 2016 Dave Lidstone, All rights reserved. Treble in Paradise presents THE DEBUTONES in concert on Sunday November 6 at the Tipper Review Room (2066 Kingsway, at Victoria) Admission $20 Door opens at 6:30, Concert at 7:00

The Debutones excel at bringing to light hidden gems of  roots-based   songs with compelling stories and beautiful melodies––some country, some folk, and some bluegrass. The ‘Tones’ love and command of the  music they play come through in every song being delivered with their  signature vocal harmonies and stellar instrumental work. Debby Nagusky and Don Share had been singing duets for  over two decades before they were joined by three of the  Pacific Northwest’s finest musicians to form the Debutones.   Adding to Debby and Don's vocals and guitar work are   Greg Glassman, vocals and bass; Julian Smedley, vocals,   violin, and viola; and Bob Knetzger, Dobro and banjo. “Where art and magic happens”. Found this place by accident. Got back to the motel Days Inn (across the street) around 930PM. Not much else was open to eat...so we went in. Responsibly farmed/harvested food is hard enough to find. Make it unpretentious and yummy...even more difficult to find. Beer was ice-cold. Non abusive/indifferent staff. What's not to love?

My first name is Travel. In fact maybe Mr. Travel is best. My second name is Sir Beer, but shhhhh on that. So I am on the road day and night. That is hard but time to time rewarding. Our visit to your restaurant was as perfect as can be hoped for, getting Buffalo (Bison) anything anywhere is a treat and a double hands up 5 stars. Add to this staff and owners who take time to treat a visitor like family and I abandon all desires but to remain and enjoy till Amtrak takes me south again. At this rate it will be a hard choice to go or stay. All the food was great and from scratch. Everyone took time to want to help, I really appreciate that.

On the road is a puzzle of difficulty. Spending the time to relax and enjoy is something not too often found and is the missing piece in that puzzle. This was the exact piece of the puzzle we needed to complete our visit.

Oh yeah, playing now Aretha Franklin Chain of Fools in the audio, a constant reminder that some things are real and can stop you dead in your tracks. You can enjoy a moment of uncanned and non plastic, a perfect flash of reality here. Do it before you return to drive throughs and the. squawking box of the day to day.

The Hollyburn Druids Unhenged welcome you to a rollicking and harmonious evening of singing. We have button accordions, guitars, concertina, spoons, harmonica and other instruments accompanying some songs that we all know and love. We’re following the Druid tradition which encourages all to sing. Song sheets will be available and requests taken.
